Outside of a modern Regal cinema in Irvine

Who are they

Regal, a subsidiary of the Cineworld Group, operates one of the largest and most geographically diverse theatre circuits in the United States, consisting of 5,774 screens in 425 theatres in 41 states along with the District of Columbia and Guam as of April 2024.

The challenge

Regal Cinemas operates in 41 states throughout the United States, each with its own set of laws. This posed a challenge for us, as we needed to ensure that the correct training content was provided to the appropriate individuals based on their respective state.

Additionally, completions of specific state content, such as alcohol training, had to be automatically logged in their Workplace roster system.

The solution

The solution involved utilising the User Group profiling functionality within the Academy Point LMS, combined with a nightly HR data feed that Regal automatically provides. This data feed contains essential information about staff members, such as their location and job roles, which allowed us to automate the process of assigning appropriate training content based on the specific state in which each employee works.

By setting up each state as a distinct User Group within the LMS, we ensured that the system could correctly assign state-specific training to employees as soon as the data feed was processed. For example, staff members working in California were only assigned California-specific training content, such as regulations related to alcohol service, while those in other states received the relevant training for their location. This setup not only streamlined the process but also minimised the risk of staff receiving incorrect or irrelevant training material, ensuring compliance with state laws across the board.

In addition to the training assignment, we developed an automated state training progress report that was directly integrated with Regal's Workplace roster system. The integration ensured that only employees who had successfully completed their required state-specific training could be scheduled for shifts, helping Regal maintain compliance with local regulations and avoid potential legal issues.

The result

Overall, this solution not only streamlined the management of state-specific training but also ensured that Regal’s staff across 41 states remained compliant with diverse state laws, enhancing operational efficiency and minimising compliance risks.

The integration between the LMS and the roster system further reduced the administrative workload, as managers no longer needed to manually verify training completion before scheduling employees for shifts.
